Sunshine and Shadows

A splash of sunshine

Singes the shadows

Of the sidewalks

Inside your head

A marble rolls recklessly

Through the maze of your mind

Exasperated echoes

Fill the haunted chambers

That once rang true

With the voice of reason

All that remains is

The sound of silence

Should you fill it or

Let it be

Does the first one to speak

Really lose

Or does that mean

You really care

We were just a zig zag away

Touching lives of many

Who know the feeling

When everything around you

Flew out the windowImage

Raindrops and Peony

Raindrops and Peony

Digital Photography by Todd Breitling~May,2013

Of Myths and Mountains

Who knows where you’ll be

When the sun rises tomorrow

You could be here, you might be there

Where you go when your gone

Nobody knows

Is it a place nearby

Or far, far away

In the landscape of your mind

Forgotten by now

Remembered a little later

You thought you could escape

Undetected you skulk through the mist

Of the valley from whence you came

The mountains obscure your past

The sky fades to darkness

Pure light rarely lasts

Imagine emerald isles in the sky

A country in your eyes

Separates the idea of the myths

That still linger and ones that have yet

To be forged beneath the hillside

Of your country manor

A new dawn rises

Swelling smiles suppress the silence Image

Drifting Back

Inside the evening

Are the embers of genesis

Whisper relentlessly to stoke

The fires within your seed

Allow the water to seep

Deeper and deeper into the earth

Pour out the poison

Found inside the hollows

Wander through the mountains

Pass beneath soaring trees

Take shelter from the elements

Beside the sacred lake

That echoes still the voices of the past

From the great beyond they talk

Through the valleys of time they walk

Protect them from the evil that men do

Stagnant and polluted is the government path

Purge the ranks, impeach the politicians

Bring back the native spirit

Walk tall with Mother Nature

Or she will continue her wrathImage

Empty Depths

A long sunset stares back at you

From the desolate desk of a sterile cubicle

Overwhelming urgency invades

So much to do, so little time

Interconnected isolation

All eyes upon you

Seeking direction or a new point of view

How long will you wait for others

To determine your fate

Now is here, here is gone

Just like that

Your sent into business combat

You change course, frenetic is the pace

Society induces the chase

How long will you pursue

What they tell you to do

At what cost will you give up

What you came here to do

Left upon the rocky shores

Your future is calling back to you

Between the gaps of time

A crystal light from mountain dew

Trickles down from the depths

Reaching your empty tomb

A deep sleep grabs you and pulls you under

Is there a better time than right now

To cover your crypt with rosesImage

What you came here to do

Your Path

Let’s climb a tree to stare at the moon

Feel the night air into your eyes

Time does glare for whom you toil

That is the question, leave me no answers

Yet obey the submission, hear me now

As my footsteps grow closer, lurking near

Are the clouds that surrender the rain

With joy and vengeance they mix

A virtuous necessity no one can overcome

As everyone must slake their thirst

Eventually someone will arrive

Who will share the secret of survival

Yet that person may not be known to you yet

Or not quite heaven sent

So continue on your path

To deliver your message

That you do not yet quite understand

On one hand you can count the ways

On the other you subtract the days

Since you last saw me in your dreams

That foretell everything you ever believed

For now you must render them unto meImage

Already

Feelings fade in between the days

That melt together, one into another

Until you discover that which ought to be

Is already

Until that day, you will find out

How to live to become who you were born to be

After all this way we are here to see

Rejoice, find your voice, savor the sounds

The smiling faces you greet

Sometimes the people you meet

Teach you the lessons you can’t repeat

Friends remain fast and true

Wherever you go there they are

So come one, come all, join together

Before we get much older

Find the one, forgive yourself

Remove the stain and cover the scar

Look for the north star of your soul

Obey your spirit for it is righteous

Guide your mind, protect your body

Visit the ocean and linger long

Breathe the mountains and caress the creek

Sweet purple flowers bloom, wash away the gloom

Remember the magic hour of light, savor it

For it is Buddha’s smile

Kiss the night, embrace it’s darkness

For it is the other half of your divine twilightImage

Fade to Black

I disappear before your eyes

Sifting through the ashes

Of a lifetime gone by

Who knows what becomes of us

At the end of days

Wonder no more what happens

When you close your eyes forever

Listen to the heartbeat of the moment

When the light fades to black

Tell me a tale

Of myth or legend

To set my mind at ease

Before I slip into the great beyondImage

Night Light

When you find out

Where you’ve been

Look me up and let me know

I’ve been hanging out yet laying low

Since I returned from the future past

Borders blend beyond

Complications connect quickly

You reply belatedly

Hoping to salvage salutations

Which allow you to enter

A portal that soon disappears

Before your eyes adjust

Moonlight filters the face

You thought you would never see again

But there it is

Staring back at you

A whiter shade of pale

Haunted and forbidden

You’ve forgotten the viewImagepoems,poetry,stories,words,fine art,photography,breitling,paintings,night,oil on pavement,blogs,poetry blogs,poem blogs,artist websites,

Redemption

Strangers become forever

Suddenly it happened

When you thought it never would

A chance meeting, a change of direction

You blew in with the breeze

Easily you came

Westward the eyes seek

Across a serene scene

Foreign terrain before you

Travel lightly leave no trace

Looking for home

In someone else’s eyes

Seeking shelter from the storm

Raindrops mean redemption

Spring time thaws your heart

That stopped cold at the sight

Of losing what we started

A bonfire of spirits

Sparks ignite the sky

Overhead two stars collide

A new world emerges

Bathed in the blood of the moonImage
